Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail clearing in Acton
on June 6, 2009

On National Trails Day, Saturday June 6, a hard-working volunteer crew of nearly 30 people cleared a long stretch of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Acton. Since the last trail clearing three years ago, brush has been growing back rapidly. Weed wrenches were in constant use ripping brush out by the roots instead of just cutting the brush. The section from Concord Rd. north to the first bridge over Nashoba Brook was put in great shape for walking, jogging or mountain biking. We cleared a pathway roughly a half mile long in each direction. Cut down and uprooted a lot of buckthorn bushes, removed much trash. Food and beverages for trail clearing volunteers was provided by Pedal Power, Acton, MA.
