Track Timber Tie removal began on 4/7/08.
Reconstruction of the bridge abutments for the bridges at Lakeside Ave, Bertucci’s, and south of Blaisdell Rd began week of 3-31-08. This work includes survey layout and reinforcing steel installation. Concrete placement for the reconstructed abutments tentatively scheduled for week of 4-21-08.
Tie removal operation will continue for approximately 3 weeks and will occur in various areas of the project.
Another crew is working ahead of the tie removal crew to pick up any remaining pieces of track plates and spikes left over from the track removal operation.
Bridge reconstruction will continue into the summer months.
All Clearing and Grubbing complete. (Sightline clearing at Rte 27 S-Curve to be done in spring.)

3 of the 4 bridges have successfully been removed. Crane mats have been placed on existing abutments to allow for egress across rivers during track removal and future work.

As a reminder, public access is not allowed on rail trail corridor during construction. Many hazards exist and fencing has been erected to visibly warn others that access to trail is not recommended. During track removal many pieces of miscellaneous steel and rail spikes have been left behind as a by-product of the operation. These pieces will be removed upon completion of track removal operation but until then these pieces pose a trip and puncture hazard due to snow cover. Please stay off the corridor.

Sno-Fence for visible deterrent for access to trail being installed week of 1-7-08.
Track removal will begin in vicinity of Scott’s Landscaping parking area and moving towards the bridge located between Scotts and High Street. The purpose will be to access the bridge so demolition and reconstruction can begin on that bridge. Concrete barriers will be placed at each end of bridge upon completion of demolition to protect trespassers from fall hazards. (Again, this is an active construction site and access is prohibited for safety and liability reasons.)
Weather allowing-track removal will continue in other areas. These areas will be determined by ease of access and other factors.

The clearing operation began on Wednesday November 7. The clearing operation is completed from the old Chelmsford cinema to Maple Road in Chelmsford. As of December 3, 2007 the clearing operation is in progress towards Pond Street in Chelmsford.
At that time the clearing will continue from Maple Rd. towards Pond St.
Clearing will begin from Pond St towards the Hart Pond area during week of Dec 10th.
Clearing is anticipated to be completed before the first of the year.
Track and tie removal will begin at the conclusion of the clearing operation, weather permitting.
Erosion Control fence installation nearing completion in Westford.
The clearing operation began on Wednesday, November 7. Work began behind the closed cinema in Chelmsford and progressed towards Route 495 that first week. For the week of November 12 work progressed from Route 495 towards Chelmsford Center. The clearing for the area behind the businesses in Chelmsford Center will occur on Saturday, November 17 in an effort to minimize the impact to the business district and its parking.
Clearing will continue from the Village Grille parking area towards High St. and from High St towards Blaisdell during the week of Thanksgiving. It is anticipated that work will cease at the end of the day Wednesday before Thanksgiving and resume again on Monday November 26. At that time, the clearing will continue from Blaisdell towards Maple Rd.
Track and tie removal will begin at the conclusion of the clearing operation.

The tree clearing operation is now scheduled to begin on November 7st. Again this work will begin at the Lowell end of the project and progress daily towards Westford. The entire clearing operation is slated to take 3 to 4 weeks. Track removal should be underway shortly thereafter and depending on the winter weather we will continue work as long as possible.

The tree clearing operation is now scheduled to begin on or around November 1st. Again this work will begin at the Lowell end of the project and progress daily towards Westford. The entire clearing operation is slated to take 3 to 4 weeks. Track removal should be underway shortly thereafter and depending on the winter weather we will continue work as long as possible.
Flagging for limits of clearing and wetland delineation completed for 100% of project.
The installation of the erosion control fencing will begin on Tuesday October 9, 2007 at the Lowell end of the project.
The work will continue towards Chelmsford and Westford and it is estimated that the work will take 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
The Clearing Operation is scheduled to begin the week of October 22, 2007. It will begin at the Lowell end of the project and continue towards Chelmsford and Westford.
Flagging operations for limits of clearing and limits of wetlands completed.
Survey control and stationing on-going.
Wetland flagging was reviewed by members of Chelmsford Conservation Commission on Sept 20.
All was in compliance with Order of Conditions.
Meeting with Westford Conservation Commission scheduled for Sept 24.
The Mass Highway field office should be up and running in late September. At that time a phone
number will be established for questions.
There is the possibility that the installation of erosion control could begin during week of Sept 24. The entire installation is anticipated to take approximately 3 weeks.
Once a sizeable amount of erosion control is installed the clearing operation will begin.
Pre-Construction conference held on August 22, 2007 at Mass Highway District 4 office-Arlington.
Resident Engineer met with the Contractor on Thursday, August 30 to review wetland Orders of
Conditions and to coordinate flagging of wetlands. We also discussed the flagging for the limits of the Clearing and Grubbing operations.
Resident Engineer set up a meeting with the Chelmsford Conservation Commission Chair for Tuesday,
September 4, 2007. (Westford meeting to be scheduled.)
The Mass Highway field office should be up and running in mid to late September. At that time a phone
number will be established for questions.
A 2- man survey crew began flagging for the clearing operation on Thursday August 30. They started
in the High St. area and will be working towards Chelmsford center. This will continue into next
week. The flagging of the wetland areas will also be done during the next week.
The first operation to be undertaken is the installation of the erosion control measures at all locations
indicated on the plans. A schedule has not yet been determined.
