Pre-Demolition Meeting for 27 Katrina Road Chelmsford, MA: February 3, 2011


Dear Chelmsford Property / business owner / tenant:

We are writing to you as Town records indicate that you are a property and or business owner or tenant within 300 feet of 27 Katrina Road, a property owned by the Town. As you may be aware, this property is subject to soil contamination and is classified as a brownfield. The Town has been awarded a $200,000 clean up grant from the EPA. This grant will be used for abatement of hazardous building materials and the demolition of the existing structure.

As part of the Town’s Community Involvement Plan, a pre-demolition meeting will be held on: Thursday, February 3rd at 10 am at 27 Katrina Road The purpose of this meeting will be to present the abatement and demolition plan and answer questions. Representatives from the Town, EPA and the demolition contractor will be present. Abatement and demolition activities are scheduled to commence in early February and are expected to be complete within 30 days.

Phase 1 of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail extends from the Lowell/Chelmsford line near Cross Point and Rt. 3, through Chelmsford Center, to the intersection of Route 27 and Route 225 in Westford. The trail has a 10-foot wide pavement with a 2-foot wide packed shoulder on each side. It traverses woods, wetlands, open fields, recreational areas, and shopping areas. The trail is 6.8 miles long. Motorized vehicles are not allowed.

On Monday, January 10, 2010, the Town of Chelmsford will hold a public meeting, in Room 204 of the Town Offices, 50 Billerica Road, to discuss the draft Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives (ABCA) for 27 Katrina Road (the former “Silicon Transitor site”) and hear public comments. The ABCA is available for a 30 day public review and comment period and is available for review at the Community Development Office, located at 50 Billerica Road, during business hours (Mon-Fri: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) and the Town’s webpage at www.townofchelmsford.us. The spokesperson for the Town is Evan Belansky, Community Development Director, who can be reached by phone at (978) 244-3341, via email at ebelansky@townofchelmsford.us , or by mail at Chelmsford Community Development Department, 50 Billerica Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824. The Town has hired Nobis Engineering of Lowell, MA to complete the alternatives analysis and develop a plan for site cleanup. Comments on the draft Alternatives Analysis may be made at the public meeting or submitted in writing to Mr. Belansky.
